Reiju is guilty of bullying by association. While she didn't engage in—and in fact abhorred—the violence herself, as a child she stood in the sidelines and laughed at her eight-year-old brother's abuse (physical, mental, and emotional) out of self-preservation. She treated him in secret after every instance, but never came to his defense during. The same pattern later repeated for a time in adulthood.

Bullying & abuse

Despite her base desire to steer clear of her family's cruelty, Reiju believes herself undeserving of life for all the horrors she's wrought to the world. Consequently, she doesn't fear death and even passively welcomes it, at one point choosing to allow herself to be murdered before the attempt was thwarted by another party, and is frank about her lack of will to live under certain circumstances.

Suicidal ideation

Reiju's family bears a strong scientific background wherein her father experimented on his children against her mother's express consent. Reiju is therefore a genetically modified human who's coded to obey her father's direct command, stripped of true autonomy under his authoritarian thumb.
